The 2023 participants of the Leadership Development ProgramPC’s Leadership Development Program (LDP) has been an overarching foundation for the development of future PC leaders for decades. In fact, our current president and CEO, Matt Cooke, is a graduate of this very program, along with several members of PC’s executive leadership team. We currently have 15 enthusiastic participants in the LDP, ranging from recently accepted to nearing graduation. It has been exciting watching their growth during their time in the program, which has expanded and evolved over the past year.

One of the highlights of the program is the annual LDP Academy. This event provides an opportunity for members of the program to get together in person, network and build relationships, learn from fellow employee owners about how PC operates, build their leadership skills and tour project sites. This year’s academy took place at PC’s Vermont office.

Over the course of the three days, the group participated in panel discussions on leadership skills, self-perform work, Lean, ownership culture and how the business development and estimating teams work together to win new projects. Former LDP participants and executives also spoke to the group and, in turn, the LDP participants gave company improvement presentations to spark growth and change from within. The Academy was wrapped up with a site visit to the BETA Technologies S40 Aircraft Assembly Facility project where two current LDPs gave a tour and shared their contributions to the project over the past year.

This was the first LDP Academy since 2019 due to the COVID pandemic and it was great to be together again. These two days of in-person sessions really strengthened relationships within the LDP group and beyond while providing an environment for learning.

This program has been incredibly powerful at PC, giving voice and opportunity to our up-and-coming leaders and preparing them to succeed in all facets of a construction business. We look forward to supporting them along their learning path and celebrating their accomplishments along whichever path they take.

Construction Workers

We are excited to welcome PC’s 2023 summer interns! We have over 20 individuals joining us from colleges and universities spanning the East Coast. Over the next few months, they will work with our talented teams in each of our regions – from Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and New York down to the Mid-Atlantic, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida – to hone their skills and gain on-the-job experience. They are diving in, some on the craft side and others in office engineering roles, each performing specialized work in each of our diverse markets – from an electric aircraft assembly facility and alpine resort to large-scale housing complexes, state-of-the-art academic facilities, and crucial water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades.

This time of year excites all of us at PC. We look forward to the fresh perspectives, energy and enthusiasm that our interns bring every day. In turn, we offer valuable experiences, on-the-job coaching, and mentoring combined with the opportunity to put their classroom education into practice. We are excited for them to work hand-in-hand with some of the best people in our industry as they learn and grow through this invaluable experience.

Over the next several weeks we highlight our interns on our social channels, so connect with us and learn more about them and what they are looking forward to during their summer with PC!

Students on jobsiteLast week, 13 students from Clarkson University’s mechanical, civil, and engineering management program traveled to South Burlington to take in the BETA Technologies S40 Aircraft Assembly Facility project. Project Manager Olivia Costin and Office Engineer Rachel Rackliff, both Clarkson alumni, welcomed the group onsite for a tour and detailed project review. Students learned about the about the scope, delivery method, schedule and current progress of this impressive project followed by an opportunity to meet with the entire PC Construction project team.

Students braved the cold temperatures onsite touring the construction progress and learning about construction means and methods. On this particular project, schedule is a major driver. The students saw first-hand how cable bracing ensures insulated metal wall panel installation can start before the steel structure is completed and how suspended scaffolding at the roof allows work within the building and at the roof to occur simultaneously. They also learned about the geothermal well field currently under construction and the rough-in of the associated MEP systems.

We especially enjoy these opportunities to share our exciting projects and talented teams with the next generation of construction leaders.
